TotalPollution global campaign for Greenpeace directed by Studio Birthplace.

The global fossil fuel industry extracts enough oil to fill a rugby stadium every 3 hours and 37 minutes. TotalPollution unmasks how fossil fuel giants like TotalEnergies sponsor major sporting events to greenwash their dirty business while continuing to add to the climate crisis - and urges audiences to stand against the exploitation of sports and the ecological harm caused by corporate interests and advocate for a sustainable, liveable future for all.

TotalPollution: A Dirty Game

The global fossil fuel industry extracts enough oil to fill a rugby stadium every 3 hours and 37 minutes. Together with Studio Birthplace and production partner Park Village, Greenpeace France created ‘TotalPollution: A Dirty Game’ to campaign against fossil fuel giants, like TotalEnergies, sponsorship of major sporting events, like the Rugby World Cup 2023, to greenwash their business while continuing to contribute to the climate crisis. “When Greenpeace approached us with such an ambitious brief, to hold accountable the major sponsor of one of the sporting world’s most iconic international events, we knew it would have significant impact. Having produced a similarly impactful awareness campaign previously for Greenpeace, we know how effective these messages can be in building public perception around major players in the climate crisis. Studio Birthplace came up with another incredible concept, putting heart and soul into the production of the intricate VFX across a compressed timeline and budget, resulting in an overwhelming film and AR output. We’re continually very proud of our work with them” EP • Adam Booth "There is an urgent need for accountability and transformation within the fossil fuel industry to avoid the worst effects of climate breakdown - sponsoring major sporting events to greenwash their dirty business has to be stopped. In this film we wanted to make visible the tremendous scale of our global crude oil production, and expose the extreme rate at which we are continuing to fuel our climate crisis. Together, let us stand against the exploitation of sports for corporate interests and advocate for a sustainable, livable future for all." Film directors • Jorik Dozy and Sil van der Woerd
